Glycosuria is more at risk for diabetes patients

  • Type 2 diabetes

People who don't have diabetes can also experience glycosuria. This type of glycosuria occurs when a person consumes foods high in sugar. Apart from food, hyperglycemia can also be caused by acromegaly, thyrotoxisosis, severe anxiety, Cushing's syndrome, increased stress hormones, and rapid emptying of the stomach.

Things to Look For for Glycosuria Patients

In most cases, glycosuria has no serious effects or symptoms, so it can occur for years without being felt. On physical examination there are often no specific abnormalities. In urine and blood tests, when glycosuria is found without impairment of kidney function, the condition is most likely caused by genetic mutations and is not dangerous. However, beware if you or someone close to you experience symptoms that might cause glycosuria such as: feeling very hungry, very thirsty, urinating suddenly or even unusually. Meanwhile, those who experience glycosuria due to type 2 diabetes can feel fatigue, impaired vision, difficult to heal injuries, and weight loss for no apparent reason. Although it sounds scary, glucosuria actually does not require special treatment if it is not based on a situation that makes a person release glucose in urine in high levels. If this condition is caused by certain situations, such as diabetes, the doctor will treat the patient so that the disease can be managed properly. Generally, glucosuria can be treated by regularly exercising for at least 30 minutes per day, monitoring blood sugar levels, eating foods with adequate nutrition and reducing consumption of sugar, fat, liquor, and caffeine. In addition, drugs to help the body use insulin, such as metformin, can also be used.
